V4042: Sex, Drugs, and Racist Puppets in Splash Fall 2014 (Nov. 08 - 09, 2014)
Musical theater is not always jazz hands, spontaneous bursts of song, and happily ever afters. Sex, drugs, racist puppets, Mormons, mental illness, and rock and roll all permeate some of the greatest musicals of our time. Explore some of the most controversial aspects of American Musical Theater. Consider current events through the lens of musical expression and discuss censorship in the arts. Spring Awakening, Hair, Rent, Avenue Q, and the Book of Mormon will be covered, but I am open to any musicals students would like to discuss.
