ESP Biography

Do you learn a musical instrument? Or do you just have that itch for learning about different forms of music? Then come learn about Indian classical music. We will cover characteristics of the two main forms of Indian classical music and compare and contrast them to each other and Western classical music! Purpose is not to learn Indian music, but to develop an appreciation for it.

If you like music and would like to learn to appreciate some styles of music that are "slightly" different from your mainstream music, this is a class for you! We will start with the general question of what makes music. Then, we will progress to a comparison between the Western and Indian classical systems and talk about the history of Indian classical music. Students will also be introduced to Indian music concepts such as raga, laya, tala.
