S2209: Explain the (seemingly) unexplainable with economics in Splash! Spring 2012 (Apr. 21 - 22, 2012)
You will learn how to use the “Freakonomics” analytical framework to understand day-to-day phenomena that are often overlooked. While the original books may have oversimplified their language in order to connect with the readers, we will introduce formal yet fundamental economic principles that can be applied to selected topics. Economic theory and principles aside, this class will also teach you to be effective researchers. Through interactive case studies (some from the book and some not), we will explore some of the basic techniques to procure, manage, and analyze data.
