Brief Biographical Sketch:

I was born and raised in Shanghai, China before I came to Stanford, where I plan to pursue theoretical physics, philosophy, and classics. I am constantly fascinated by the differences between Chinese and American cultures and the ways they complement each other. I feel that I live in parallel universe. Welcome to my world!

R3648: Think Like a Chinese in Splash! Spring 2014 (Apr. 12 - 13, 2014)
In China, when someone thanks you for your help or kindness, you should say "you don't need to be so polite" instead of "you are welcome." Surprised? Interested? Then you should definitely check out this class. How do Chinese think? Why do they think in such different ways from the rest of the world? What can we learn from it? This class examines the Chinese way of thinking and its historical, cultural as well as linguistic background. It also explores the relationship between the Chinese way of thinking and some social issues such as family value, philosophy, politics, religion, and why Chinese kids do well in math in general. The content of the class can be adjusted upon the request of the students according to their interest.
